What we say…
West 14th is fine dining that has far too much of a relaxed Palm and beach vibe to take itself too seriously. That does not mean it does not have good food or a weighty wine list (as far as any restaurant in the UAE could make that claim). It does, it’s just this restaurant is more about the vibe: A little jazzy and canteeny on the inside, laid back on the outside.
This is a little bit of a location thing – West 14th is almost a beach/pool restaurant – and diners are an eclectic mix of the well dressed and those straight from the water – pool or beach – outside at least (inside it’s smarter). That outside space next to the bar has an incredible view of Dubai Marina – literally one of, if not the best views of Dubai. This is a fantastic spot to come with friends, with your loved one, even if that’s a book, for sun downers and/or shisha.
On the inside West 14th is much more of a traditional steak house. Think wood, think reds, think leather. Stylistically it’s a bit of a cliche, but its well done and it works, especially in the winter when all the windows are pushed to one side and the outside enters in. There is a bar at the back and two big sharing tables in front, great while you wait for your table (rarely required) or just want to have a drink with small bites. It’s also a good spot for the live band.
Food is right up there with the some of the best steak houses in Dubai. This is a restaurant that does not like to keep its menu the same for very long. However steaks are an enduring feature as you would hope.
The meat is imported from the US, Australia and Ireland. The usual cuts are available – Ribeye, Tenderloin, Sirloin, On the Bone and prices are reasonable – for a steakhouse and for the Palm – think in the range of 200 AED to 350 AED depending on the size, cut and where the meat is from. Naturally, it will be cooked how you want it. For the most part the chef gets it very right.
Those who don’t melt at the thought of Wagyu are covered by a quite comprehensive menu. Our biggest criticism is that they removed the ribs, which we thought were a) good, and b) suited the ambiance. There is just something friendly about a plate of ribs. Bring them back please. The BBQ Beef Bisquet brought you a little bit of the experience but that too has gone, along with the BBQ organic chicken. The ‘Mains’ menu has been pared back and now consists of Confit Duck Leg, Wagyu Beef Cheek, Chicken and Mushroom Pie and Hand Rolled Gnocci.
For those who don’t like meat at all there are four seafood options, while the two vegetarian offerings of old have gone.
For desert lovers however, good news – the pudding menu is excellent – and getting bigger. Just has a look at these…
They taste even better than they look. (Image: Chocolate Spoonbread, and the Caramel Sundae – which is orgasmic).
Overall West 14th is a Palm staple. It is reliable, very good quality, and while expensive – there is no difference between this and a restaurant in a 5-star hotel, is reasonable within a Palm context if you want a good night out. Think 600 AED for two without drinks.

What they say…
West 14th is well worth a visit, not least for the stunning beach front setting and views of Dubai Marina. Dining in the restaurant is a bold affair from the red leather throne-like seats to the exposed brick walls and sassy jazz. The food packs an equally impressive punch and it is without doubt a nirvana for steak lovers. The National, 2015
Every palate is catered for here with pescetarians and vegetarians also spoiled for choice. The veggies are home grown making dishes such as celeriac and mushroom lasagne or the chickpea cakes with crispy tofu and spicy creamed peas more succulent. While for those who eat fish try the sea bass with olive tapenade and anti-boise sauce or the grilled royal hammour with fennel and orange salad. For an authentic taste of the Big Apple the white chocolate cheesecake is a mammoth yet lip-smackingly good choice.
